FAQs

Q: What does “Anon” stand for? What’s with the characters on the banner?

“Anon” stands for “Anonymous”, which comes from the 2channel, and its English spinoff, 4channel, way ofnaming on comments – everyone must post Anonymously. Black and White began FwPA after scanlating comics on /a/ for a while, and that’s why everyone is still codenamed “Anonymous” – “Anon” !

The characters on the banner correspond to our members’ colors – Anon White is Cure White, but Anonymous – thus, the black bar / blur over her eyes. The characters are from the Pretty Cure universe, a popular shoujo series. Occasionally, the banner will change into other characters, but in those cases, it will be obvious who is who.

Q: When are you going to post Chapter XX? Why did you postpone a release?

A: We are humans, unfortunately. We will post updates on the news page whenever things change for the better or worse. If a release date passes, an update on that post will soon follow. We try our best to be quick about things, but life happens. Please be patient.

Q: Why isn’t anyone in the Cbox? How does the Cbox work?

A: The Cbox is kind of like a one-topic forum, with quick replies. It’s not like a normal chat, where you can see who’s on and who’s talking at any given time. Imagine it as a bulletin board where people post messages to each other. If you post something in there when nobody’s around, everyone will be able to see it the next time they show up.

If you’d like to talk to us in real time, like a real chatroom, join us in IRC! #prettyanon@irc.rizon.net . How do you get on IRC? See our blog post entitled “IRC Channel”!

Q: What’s the TAV Chatroom? Why aren’t you in there?

A: The TAV Chatroom is a Text, Audio, and Video Chatroom hosted by tinychat. You can share your microphone and webcams with us, as well as what you’re doing on your desktop! Usually, it’s not busy unless there’s a release, or it’s a Friday or Saturday night.

Q: You made a mistake somewhere!

A: Tell us about it right away! You can post here, in the Cbox, on the post of the release, or send us an email. We’ll try to fix it as soon as we can.

Q: How can I become a Pretty Anon?

A. There are three guidelines to being a Pretty Anon. First, you must be either over 18 or an /a/non. Second, you must be Gundam or an Innovator. Third, you must think 3D is pig disgusting.

All joking aside (;_; it’s not joking):

1) Be experienced with cleaning / translating / typesetting / scanning. FWPA works fast, and we’ll expect you to do a good job in record time. You don’t have to have been in any other groups, but as long as you can do quality work in 24 hours or less, that’s good enough for us!

2) Be online (MSN / IRC) frequently and have good communication with other Anons. White, Gray, and Black talk daily for hours. If at any moment something comes up, you must be online to at least discuss it. (We acknowledge that real life gets in the way of things.)

3) Show a reasonable amount of maturity both in ‘public’ and online with the Anons. We’ve had problems (and continue to have problems) with new Anons and their lack of maturity, and have had to dismiss them before they could begin working. It’s important that our members are mature and aren’t the cause of any possible drama, for the smooth operation of the scanlation group. This is for the staff of FWPA to decide, and not to be disputed.

If you think you could be a good addition to the team, don’t hesitate to email us or leave a comment on this post. Right now, we’re not necessarily recruiting, but applications are always welcome!

Any other questions can be addressed in the chatroom. Leave a message with your name and email and we’ll get back to you pretty quickly. Or, you can email Anon Black at translatoranon@gmail.com .

Unfortunately, we can’t translate anything that’s not in Japanese. Also, right now, we’re getting busy with a few new main projects, so we highly doubt we’ll be able to get on it. But if you find Japanese raws, then we’ll certainly take a look at it.

I was wondering if you would be able to translate the manga series: “Faster than a Kiss”. The RAWs are out all the way to chapter 27 but the english versions are only up to chapter 12. It would be great if you can! Thanks! =D

(Black) I’ve been following “Kiss yori hayaku!” for a while, and it looks like the group who is doing it is pretty determined on getting the chapters out. We’re already pretty busy with some new projects, and couldn’t pick it up anyways; plus we wouldn’t want to get in that group’s way.

Once we catch up with some of our main projects, then we’ll take a look at what we have and see if we want to pick it up – if so, we’ll be sure to talk it over with the main group doing “Faster than a Kiss”.

Heya! just to let you know (in case you are interested in picking it up) Nagareboshi have dropped the shoujo title ARISA.

not that I am pressurizing you into taking more projects >.< But just in case you were interested in more Nakayoshi projects~

(Black) I read through a few chapters of that. If nobody else is doing it, then I guess we could look into it. It’d only be one more.

Of course, we’re still working on Doki Doki Tama-tan, but once a month wouldn’t be bad. How far are they into it?

      • 2009 September 30

        Nagareboshi are going to release one more chapter (chapter 9, from Issue 10 of Nakayaoshi) So it would be from Issue 11’s Nakayoshi. There aren’t many other groups that handle the Nakayoshi manga series, so it would surprise me if another group had already picked it up ^^;

Since the first chapter of Tama-tan isn’t even out yet (u_u) It’s not as urgent to work on it (I guess), I have translated and scanned up to chapter 8… but hopefully once the first chapter is out things will speed up a bit.

Issue 11 comes out this month, doesn’t it? Then it would be relatively easy to translate and work on it while we wait for Nagareboshi. Just in case, we’ll email Nagareboshi before them to make sure that we won’t get owned like we did last time.

Tama-tan has been sitting around completely cleaned but not typeset.

On your recent Shugo Chara scans of Ch. 45, you guys had a picture with some text saying for fans to buy the Japanese only releases of the SC manga and DVDs. Why is that?

The official English releases from Del Ray are horrible. Their translations are consistently incorrect (“Black Lynx” was translated as “Black Links” and “Dia” is translated as “Diamond”) and their editing is almost always off.

Crunchyroll used to be a good, free site that supported fansubs, but now is driving fansubs out of the fandom and charging fans money for an ~okay~ job with anime fansubs. Moreover, the fanbase eats their crap up and buys into (literally) their moneymaking schemes.
